Polina Tereshina Bio/CV

Polina Tereshina is fascinated with passing feelings and short private moments of human interaction. In particular, she looks for the humor in our struggle for balance. She finds inspiration by looking both outward and inward and from these observations has developed a cast of characters who help tell the stories. She then poses the characters out of context in a simple, shallow space, wanting to confine them in a moment, preserving the awkward that you can't put your finger on - a strange intensity that grabs you sometimes.

Tereshina works on paper because she feels that painting on paper instills a modesty and lightness to the subjects. Paper also allows her to create even flats of color and use elements of collage to push and pull the viewer's eye in and out of the shallow spaces of the painting.
